Michael Beasley: Future Superstar?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you have probably heard about the new “big three” in Miami. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have teamed up on South Beach to form a team that can hopefully bring seven championships to Miami as James said. But with these three players joining forces, this meant that second-year player Michael Beasley and his contract had to go. Beasley leaves the sunny skies and warm weather of Miami for the cold weather of Minnesota. While Beasley joins a team of young players, I think that this move was the best move that could be made for Beasley’s career.

Beasley lived in the shadow of Wade in Miami and never got the chance to break out and show the league why he was selected second overall in the 2008 NBA draft. With him starting fresh in a new city, this will be a great time for him to break out and show the league how much of a beast he is.

I wouldn’t label him a bust so far. He has averaged 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds so far in his short career. But his best days are coming up. The Timberwolves have no all-star caliber players on their team after trading away Al Jefferson. This gives Beasley the freedom to take the role as the go-to player. This year will be a good year for Beasley. I believe he will take that role and emerge as an up and coming superstar in the league.
